How to Negotiate and Doing business in Denmark |
|
 |
| Remember that... |
|
During the Middle Ages most of the Vikings dominating the seas were Danes. Today this conquering spirit has been passed on to the business world. In spite of its small size, Denmark boasts internationally famous companies such as Carlsberg, Lego, Bang & Olufsen, Novo Nordisk (the largest producer of insulin in the world), and Maersk.

Negotiation tips
- Danish companies are easily accessible and logistic services are also highly developed. To sell industrial products you will need to use the services of agents or distributors to reach the end-customer.
- Wholesale distribution is highly concentrated. Over half the wholesale trade is done by two large groups that also import directly: the FDB consumer cooperative and the Dansk Supermarked company.
- In retail distribution “voluntary” chains of specialist shops predominate which, although they are individually owned, group together to buy and sell with common brands. There are also four department stores; the largest, Magasin, is found in the main cities.

Etiquette tips
- Greeting is a firm, brief handshake between men and women alike. When you greet a couple you must shake the woman’s hand first. They also shake hands when they say goodbye.
