The construction and the operation of a manufacturing or services facility in a foreign country for a set period of time after it is handed over to a local government authority for a nominal fee. BOT is usually used as a means of financing large or complicated infrastructure projects in developing economies unable to finance the project themselves. See also Turnkey.
