Received for shipment B/L

A bill of lading which confirms the receipt of goods by the carrier, but not their actual loading on board. This document can be accepted under letters of credit only if this is expressly permitted in the opening of the letter of credit, or if the credit stipulates a document covering multimodal transport. Otherwise, received for shipment B/Ls must show an additional “on board” notation in order to be accepted as a marine bill of lading. See bill of lading; letter of credit.
